Knowledge and Yardsale Exercise Equipment

Allright, if you're friends with me, you've likely heard me complain about what I consider to be a disturbing phenomenon:

Knowledge Without Discipline.

You know what I'm talking about: endless consumption of information without throwing it consistently through the grinder of some sort of discipline, philosophy or faith.  The intellectual who spends his/her entire life learning about different life paths, only to never select one and so lives as a gluttonous child is a prime example. 

In many ways, I've come to see constant knowledge intake without discipline as being the same as those pieces of exercise equipment you see in yard sales - any one of them would have made life decidedly better for the subject if only they had picked one and used it consistently.

So in the rich tradition of public implorements, please, give your knowledge the gift of consistent discipline.  It's the greatest combination since peanut butter and jelly.
